Feminism.Equality.Empowerment

”Women have minds and souls as well as hearts, ambition and talent as well as beauty and I'm sick of being told that love is all a woman is fit for.” Over the years, the patriarchy
continue to prevail in the society. Women are downgraded, abused, discriminated, and many more violence that they needed to endure, otherwise they will be labeled as “weak”. After all the things that the society made them to do or be, after all the heartache, are women really weak?

In the movie “Damsel”, the dragon was a villain who’s seeking for revenge after what the human kind did her daughters. A such royal family was desperate to have their own kingdom in which it lead them to kill the dragon’s daughter, then a deal between two parties had been made.In return, the royals have to sacrifice three princesses to the dragon in order for the royal to pay what they did. The royals sought women who will be marrying their prince and once the marriage have been executed, the sacrifice should be made for the royals to keep the kingdom. The dragon is symbolized as a woman who got hurt and a woman who is a mother through and through. The only reason she had reacted this way is because of what they did to her. “Hurt people, hurt people” is a quote that deeply explains that a wounded individual has the capability to harm anyone, because of trauma. The dragon is a representation of every woman who was obligated to carry the pain she did not asked nor wanted and to be the villain that everyone apppointed her to be.

Being a woman is impossible. “It's too contradictory and nobody gives you a medal or says thank you! And it turns out in fact that not only are you doing everything wrong, but also everything is your fault.” A quote from Greta Gerwig’s movie “Barbie”, which it preaches and highlights the reality of being a woman in a world of patriarchy. If a woman will take a step to reach the peak, everyone would come in her way to make it hard for her to get to the top.

So, for this year’s Women’s Month, let us ask ourselves if do we really celebrate women or we are merely celebrating the Women’s Month? Between these two have an obvious difference.
