The Man and His Pen
As for Dr. Jose Rizal, other than engaging in a physical and brutal fight to prove his patriotism, he rather chose to pick up his pen and start writing for his Inang Bayan. He knows how to utilize his words and where to stand. He was perhaps clear with regards to his devotion to the Philippines.
Behind his notable works, his empathetic thinking became the cause of his sharp words. His writings had greatly contributed for advocating political reforms and social change in the Philippines. He remained firm and persistent with his controversial stand and arguments despite being detained.
Noli Me Tangere (Touch Me Not) and El Filibusterismo (The Reign of Greed) were the novels of Dr. Jose Rizal where he addressed the inhumane acts by the Spaniards during the Spanish Colonial Period and furthermore social cancers that had and is still are existing. The book had opened the eyes and ignited the spirit of many Filipinos. Unfortunately, the book had caused him threats from the government at that time.
Regardless of the fact that his activism will cost him his life, he had stood for his country until his last breath. He continued to use his voice by writing. He knew the consequences yet he still took the risk. His consistency with his devotion and perseverance in writing had helped the Philippines achieve independency.
